Weekly Vocabulary Words for week of January 23rd, 2012

1. Archaeologists - A scientist who studies people who lived long ago

2. Chambers - A room

3. Investigate - To look into with great care

4. Artifacts - Something made by people long ago

5. Historic - Very important; likely to be remembered for a long time

6. Civilization - The society and culture of a people.

7. Evident - Easy to see or tell; plain.

8. Tombs - A grave; a place for a dead body.

9. Pyramids - A huge pointed building made of stone.

10. Expedition - A journey with a special purpose.

11. Driftwood - Wood that has washed ashore.

12. Galleon - A large sailing ship used in the 1400s and 1500s.

13. Handhold - Something to take hold of with the hands.

14. Mainmast - The pole on a ship that holds the largest sail.

15. Blacksmith - A person who makes things out of iron, using a furnace and hammer.
